University of Ibadan students cook outside their school gate following school closure

A student sent these photos in and wrote;
"Since the school management told us to vacate the halls of residence for staging a very peaceful protest against the rustification of a student (Mote) because he participated in a peaceful protest in one of the halls (independence hall) and poor state of electric and water supply, uites have also decided to stay back in school, we don't have any plan of going anywhere!.In fact we re currently at the school gate where we are actually cooking something really delicious ... NLC, TUC propose N56,000 as new minimum wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have jointly proposed N56,000 as the new minimum wage to the Federal Government. The minium wage presently is N18,000. The NLC president, Ayuba Wabba, at a news conference in Abuja today April 27th, said the new minimum wage was proposed to the Federal government yesterday April 26th.

"Marriage is not a thing that you just go into. This music business is a serious business. My own opinion, I think if you are in the peak of your career, you don't need any distraction. So for now I think marriage could be a distraction for me because it is a whole big institution that when you go in, you have to be fully prepared to know what you are getting into.

Buharri urges world bank to facilitate speedy repatriation of stolen funds

President Buhari has urged the World Bank to do all within its powers to facilitate the speedy repatriation to Nigeria of stolen funds still being held by Swiss authorities.

Speaking at a meeting with the visiting Managing Director of the World Bank, Ms. Sri Mulyani Indrawati, President Buhari said that the repatriation of the additional $320 million in Switzerland, which has been identified as illegally taken from Nigeria under the Abacha administration, will help to ease the current economic hardship facing the country.

As the trial of the Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, continues at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), the lead counsel Rotimi Jacobs has assumed a new role as counsel to the CCT boss Danladi Umar. While  entertaining a motion filed by one of Saraki’s Counsel’s, Ajibola Oluyede requesting that he withdraws from presiding over the CCT because of pending  bribery charges against him.

Members of the EMPD Tracing Unit arrested a Nigerian man in Kempton Park, South Africa, found in possession of R300,000 worth of drug cat, on Thursday April 21.
The 46-year-old Nigerian man was found packaging the drugs in his room at Aston Place flats in Kempton Park in Ekurhuleni.  According to EMPD spokesman Chief Superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, they had acted on a tip- off.

29-year-old Michael Awotunde sentenced to over 7 years for drug offences in the UK

Michael Awotunde, 29, of no fixed abode was sentenced to seven years and nine months in prison at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday, 25 April after pleading guilty to:
- possession of heroin with intent to supply - seven years' imprisonment;
- possession of crack cocaine with intent to supply - seven years' imprisonment (to run concurrently);
- possession of a bladed article - nine months' imprisonment (to run consecutively);

A three-year-old girl was found dead yesterday, April 26 in Montego Bay, St James, Jamaica. Police are hunting for the father who is suspected to have killed her.
Police said that the body of the little girl identified as Leashay Thomas, was found early in the morning on the popular Dump Up Beach, hours after receiving a distress call from a relative of the child.

Saraki's trial: CCT Chairman orders security officers out of court room, warns against recording court proceedings

As the trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki continued at the Code of Conduct Tribunal CCT today April 27th, the Chairman of the CCT Danladi Umar, ordered that all security personnel attached to the senate president or any other top politician should henceforth stay out of the court room when the trial commences.
